At Expert Energy Tasmania, we get asked a fair bit why we don’t just install whatever panel, inverter or battery is cheapest that week. The honest answer is that a solar and battery system isn’t a one-off purchase. It’s a long-term investment that has to keep performing in five, ten and fifteen years. So the brands behind those products matter just as much as the products themselves.
Here’s how we think about it.
Products need to look good on day one and be serviceable for years
Any decent panel or inverter will work when it’s freshly installed. The real test comes later: when a component needs diagnosing, a warranty claim needs processing, or a replacement part needs sourcing. That’s the moment a manufacturer relationship either helps you or leaves you stranded.
That’s why we don’t choose products on price, popularity or headline specs alone. We choose manufacturers and distributors based on reliability, technical support, warranty backing and serviceability. The things that determine whether we can actually look after you after the install is done.
We build direct relationships with manufacturers and distributors
A big part of our approach is maintaining strong, direct lines of communication with the brands and distribution partners behind what we install. It’s not glamorous, but it makes a genuine difference to customers.
Those relationships give our team better access to product training, technical support, warranty pathways, stock availability, system design advice and escalation support when something needs urgent attention. When an issue comes up, we’re not starting from scratch. We know who to call and how to get it resolved.

What we look for in a manufacturer
When we assess panel, inverter and battery brands, a few things carry real weight:
Reliability and proven performance. We favour manufacturers with a strong track record and consistent quality in Australian conditions. We’re cautious around products that are brand new, heavily hyped or priced aggressively without much history behind them.
Direct support pathways. Clear support channels mean faster technical advice, warranty help and service escalation when it counts.
Warranty confidence. A warranty is only worth something if the manufacturer and distributor can actually back it. We look for clear terms, established Australian support and reliable replacement processes.
Technical compatibility. Solar, batteries, inverters, backup circuits, EV chargers and monitoring all need to work together cleanly and stay serviceable long-term.
Local serviceability. Because we run an in-house service team, we think beyond installation. A system needs to be monitored, diagnosed, maintained and repaired efficiently, and good manufacturer relationships help us do that faster.
Suitability for Tasmanian conditions. Tasmania throws up steep roofs, heritage properties, exposed coastal sites, rural blocks and off-grid setups. We choose products that suit real local conditions, not just standard mainland sales packages.
Panels, inverters and batteries. A quick word on each
Panels. We choose solar panels based on whole-of-life value, not just the cheapest cost per watt. Our panel choices are built around build quality, low degradation, warranty confidence and the ability to support you long after installation, including in exposed, coastal and rural settings.
Inverters. The inverter is one of the most important parts of the system, controlling how solar, batteries, the grid, backup circuits and household loads all interact. We’re highly selective here, looking for strong documentation, reliable monitoring, dependable Australian support and practical warranty processes. We only recommend platforms we trust to perform and support over the long term.
Batteries. Battery selection is about more than storage size. A good battery needs to be safe, compatible, expandable and suited to how you actually use energy. We assess brands on their safety and management systems, real-world usable capacity, backup performance, warranty terms, inverter compatibility and local support and replacement pathways.
What we steer clear of
We don’t chase every new product release or every low-cost brand. We’re cautious where Australian support is weak or unclear, warranty claims are difficult to process, technical support is slow, documentation is poor, or replacement parts are hard to source. The same goes for products that are difficult to monitor or service, or brands that lean more on marketing than proven field performance.
The simplest way to put it: if we’re not confident we can service it, support it and get help from the manufacturer or distributor when needed, we’re not comfortable installing it.
The bottom line
Expert Energy Tasmania carefully selects the solar panel, inverter and battery manufacturers we work with. We actively build relationships with those manufacturers and distributors so our customers benefit from better technical support, stronger warranty pathways, reliable product advice and faster service outcomes when help is needed.
Put simply, we partner with brands we can rely on when it matters, not just ones that look good on a quote.
