Our Tindo panel of choice is the huge newly developed Karra 405W G2H panel. These panels are Australian made for Australians for Australian conditions. They have a 25 year product warranty and a 25 year performance warranty of 85%, which is well above the typical market offering.

PowerPlus Energy Batteries

We supply their Australian made pre-wired cabinets, modular batteries and the no fuss Amphenol connectors save time and hassle for 1 or 3 phase inverters. Being scalable you can have 1 to 100 (and beyond) batteries linked in parallel, and for larger jobs you can run parallel cabinets too. The PowerPlus Energy batteries come with a 10 year performance warranty of 60-80% (product depending) and a 10 year product warranty.

Our SMA partnership allows us to offer Tasmanians their German made Sunny Boy inverters. Partnering with another great Tasmanian company we can offer access to their excellent and extensive stock. We are able to fully integrate their generators into your bespoke Off-Grid Solar System so that you do not have to worry about low generation or depleted storage again. We use the ever reliable and powerful Kubota 5.5kVA/8.0kVA.

Daikin Air Conditioning

As specialists in air conditioning that is all Daikin do. Their products are designed to provide clean, efficient, and superior comfort in the places we live, work and play. Being Australian made they understand the climate and Australians’ needs which has them one of the most, if not the most, trusted companies for air conditioning. Daikin offer a 5 year product warranty.

 

Stiebel Eltron Heat Pump Hot Water Systems

Our Stiebal Eltron partnership allows us to offer Tasmanians their WWK 302 H hot water system that fully integrates into our Solar Systems. This design extracts heat from the air to assist in heating water and maintaining the water temperature which reduces the energy requirements. The Stiebel Eltron WWK 302 H comes with a 2 – 5 year product warranty.

Phono Solar Panels

Our exclusive Southern Tasmanian partnership enables us to offer you access to their Diamond Dual Glass Module. Featuring toughened glass on both sides, these panels also offer bifacial technology – meaning they can capture light from the rear of the panel as well as the front. While bifacial features may not be parcularly useful on a residenal roof top, the toughened glass certainly is – especially in relaton to hail resistance. These panels have a 25 year product warranty and a 30 year performance warranty of 84.95%, which is one of the highest available.

FAQs

How do you size off-grid solar systems?

Because PV is a cheaper option and batteries tend to be much more expensive, we recommend oversizing your PV. This way, even on an overcast day your system should produce enough power to change the batteries and power your home or business.

Which is better: lithium or lead-acid?

Lithium batteries are new, so their design is more ‘in this era’ than lead-acid batteries. There are traditional installers who recommend lead-acid but at Expert Electrical we’re of the opinion that lead-acid is dead and lithium is in. When shopping for the right battery it’s important to analyse the cost per ‘usable watt’. You may see a company offer 13.8kw of lithium batteries and another offer 30kw of lead-acid batteries. At face value, the 30kw lead batteries seem like the better option – it’s double the amount of storage. What isn’t obvious is that for a lead-acid battery to last close to ten years, it constantly needs to be above 70% charge. So the ‘usable’ kwh is actually more like 9kwh. A good quality 13.8kwh lithium battery comes with a ten year warranty and a 90% discharge rate, leaving you with 12.4kwh usable.

Switchboards?

If your property has an older switchboard configuration, you may require new circuit breakers to manage the flow energy safely. The newer breakers have a faster reaction time, they better manage energy, they also better protect your property, appliances and most importantly your life. We will check on this during the site inspection and can be added to the installation process by our fitters. Each switch replaced attracts a small cost but we will only replace what is necessary.

Which off-grid system does Expert Electrical recommend?

At Expert Electrical the only solar system we recommend for going off-grid is SMA. SMA is a German inverter company that’s leading the way in terms of going off grid. Their Sunny Island battery inverter is German made and has an intelligent, sturdy design. This system will keep your home running for decades.

Pair it with a BYD B-Box Pro 13.8kw lithium-ion battery. We love this battery because it’s an absolute beast. It comes fully warranted, has a 95% discharge rate, as well as a sky-high charge and discharge rate. So, you can draw 27kwh out of it and its warranty won’t be affected. For added security and peace of mind, add in some Monocrystalline solar panels with a 10 year workmanship warranty – then you’ll have a comprehensive off-grid system that’s covered entirely for 10 years.

Non-Tin Roofing?

This is uncommon but we have experience in working on all roofing materials that can be worked on. The installation does change somewhat depending on the roof material. For the installation to go without any problems this can require extra time, tools, or replacement materials to maintain weatherproofing. A flat cost is not possible because of the size of the solar system but our Technical Representative and your quote will inform you of this.

Two or more storied properties?

A higher roof can produce problems with access and worksite safety. In many cases, scaffolding will be required for safe access and include an extra cost. This is to protect not just the installer’s safety but also your property from hazardous work practices. A flat cost is not possible because of the height of the property but our sales representative and your quote will inform you of this.
