It’s fair for households to ask: if the state’s balancing large new demand, what does that mean for my rooftop solar? The honest answer is narrower than the internet comments section. You still control self-consumption, storage, and electrification at home. Nobody should invent household price forecasts off the back of one assessment process.

What the Hydro–Firmus story is actually about

What you still control at the meter

Rooftop solar doesn’t make you immune to network or wholesale shifts. It does give you levers that a household without generation doesn’t have:

  • Use it: run dishwashers, heat pump hot water, and EV charging when the roof is producing
  • Store it: a battery shifts surplus into evening peaks

Why “new wind and solar for firming” isn’t your rooftop brief

If you’re electrifying several loads at once — hot water, heating, and an EV — do it with a whole-home view. Adding three big flexible loads without solar awareness can raise imports even while the state debates new generation. Sequencing matters.
